sixitemsorless

i was inspired by the concept behind six items or less to try and pick out as many pieces of clothing for my daily living on the road.  of course, my ongoing battle is between comfort and style; on my last tour i broke down and bought these because i am constantly on my feet during one-nighters.  i will admit, a chunk of my soul died at the thought-- i had just bought a pair of vintage Fryes in Albuquerque, as well as these gorgeous boots in Philly, not to mention the 8 or 9 other pairs of shoes that had somehow made their way into my luggage over the course of the tour.

i am making a pact with myself... if i start preparing now (3 weeks before my next tour starts), i can narrow down my traveling wardrobe to... six... items... or... less.  ok, six items.

so here we go... starting with outerwear... possible candidates will be:

... with the cardigan/hoodie options being...

followed by your basic tee variety:

and a bodycon thrown in for good measure, because let's be honest, there is not a lot of time for clothing that serves no purpose other than to look hot while you're on tour.

all images from asostopshop, and american apparel
then the rest from my pre-existing wardrobe... jeans and scarves:

and shoes.

haha just kidding..... maybe half of these.  when i went out on my first tour i made the mistake of packing the most impractical items (do you even know how much room a down parka takes up?), so this time around (4th time's a charm), i am taking only the most compressible items i can find.  thin tees that layer, skinny jeans, one big cardigan (yeah thats right, i'm only taking ONE of the above), one winter coat, and one or two dresses that scrunch up into tiny little balls.  i figure, 4 or 5 tees count as one of my six items because they are so thin and are all some variation of the same thing (because who has time to make fashion DECISIONS when loading in and out of a stretch of one-nighters where all you see is the backstage door, your wardrobe gondolas, and dressing rooms.  so many dressing rooms.)  basic dresses accessorize in thousands of ways with belts, boots, tights, socks, and aforementioned cardi.

while the bajillion shoes above is somewhat of a joke (hahaaaa shoes add the most weight to luggage and there is no way i am spending $60 for every flight that i am over the weight limit), they do give me the most instant gratification when i am sick of wearing the same outfit every day.  so, that being said, i will most likely go with big clunky stompers.  doc martens, fryes, birks (what!? they are like tempur-pedic walking dream machines), and uggs.  its true.  i said it.

  1. You are amazing. This is great. Did you make it with 6? Knowing you, I doubt it. BUT I have faith that you didn't over pack! xoxo
